Dateline: 28th August, 2005 Allen Wright Award WinnersAllan Radcliffe and Chris Wilkinson have been announced as the winners of this years Allen Wright Award, at an event held at the Edinburgh offices of sponsor Shepherd and Wedderburn. Both winners were practically beyond words as they accepted their awards and £750 prize money. The award, which the leading law firm has sponsored since 1999, is designed to encourage quality writing in the field of arts journalism, recognising the best published articles covering the Fringe by young jourmalisst, in the categories of reviews and previews/additional coverage. The award itself was established by the Festival Fringe Society in 1998 in memory of this distinguished journalist who was Arts Editor of The Scotsman for thirty years and was a passionate supporter of the Fringe and young talent, setting up the Fringe First Award Scheme. In presenting the awards to Allan Radcliffe for his features on the Edinburgh Fringe in The List Magazine and Chris Wilkinson for his Fringe reviews in The Scotsman, Hugh Donald, Chairman and Partner at Shepherd and Wedderburn said, For three weeks in August no other city is more colourful than Edinburgh. As the largest open arts festival in the world, the Fringe showcases a variety of talents in all areas of the arts. The Allen Wright Awards is a chance to recognise the achievements of young writers reviewing these many and varied shows whose work has become as much part of the Fringe as the acts themselves. As sponsors of this award for the past seven years, we are proud of our association and I would like to congratulate Allan and Chris, and all the nominees on their achievements. Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
