A total of 170 acts from all over the world have signed up for this year’s Buxton Festival Fringe.

As ever, theatre forms the backbone of the programme. Last year’s award winners Smooth Faced Gentlemen will be presenting an all-female version of Shakespeare’s Titus Andronicus while theatre company Butterfly will be taking Hamlet to Poole’s Cavern and Little Red Hen Theatre promises An Evening with Charlotte Bronte.

As well as showcasing national and international acts, the Fringe is a platform for local performers and this year Harpur Hill School will join the Fringe for the first time, with students and staff presenting Lionel Bart’s Oliver.

The REC Youth Theatre Company has two plays, Red Red Shoes and Pan-O-Rama, a “Peter Pan / Harry Potter / Lord of the Flies mash-up comedy for all the family” by local playwright Tom Crawshaw.

“We’re delighted with the variety of events on offer,” said Fringe chair Stephanie Billen.

“It's wonderful to see the mix of local, national and international acts at Buxton Festival Fringe.

“You’ll be able to see a taster of what's on offer at Fringe Sunday in the Pavilion Gardens on the afternoon of 7 July.”

The Fringe runs from 3 until 21 July. Further information is available at www.buxtonfringe.org.uk.
