Lesley Garrett, Hugh Dennis and John Marquez in The Messiah

Hugh Dennis, Lesley Garrett and John Marquez will play “a cast of thousands” in Patrick Barlow’s The Messiah which opens at Birmingham REP in October 2018.

This new comedy by the writer of the West End hit The 39 Steps features a travelling theatre troupe of two actors and an opera singer who are due to arrive on a camel in Birmingham to enact the greatest story ever told.

The “absurdly talented Maurice Rose (Hugh Dennis), the alarmingly unpredictable Ronald Bream RAC (John Marquez) and the distinguished diva Mrs Doreen Small (Lesley Garrett)” appear in the “hilarious Christmas comedy that conjures up the sublime, the ridiculous and the truly angelic”.

The Messiah opens at Birmingham REP from Thursday 18 until Saturday 27 October before a UK tour.
