Guildford Shakespeare Company announced at the launch for its 10th anniversary programme that actor Brian Blessed had agreed to be the company’s Honorary Patron.

Blessed, who worked with GSC at the beginning of last year playing the title role in King Lear, said, “I am delighted to be honorary patron of the Guildford Shakespeare Company. This company is nothing short of miraculous. Congratulations on your 10th anniversary, coinciding with the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death. A momentous year—a great company.”

GSC kicks off its season with The Winter’s Tale, which will be staged in the newly restored church on Holy Trinity Church on Guildford High Street.

Caroline Devlin and Neil Irish will be joined by sound designer Matt Eaton and a cast including Tracy Brabin, Selma Brook, Sarah Gobran, Harmage Singh Kalirai, Robert Mountford, Gideon Turner, Matt Pinches and Chris Porter.

GSC’s 2016 programme will also include The Comedy of Errors and Much Ado about Nothing.

The Winter’s Tale opens on 8 February.
