“Honour”: Catherine Mallyon

Catherine Mallyon who is standing down as executive director of the Royal Shakespeare Company, is to become chair of Birmingham Hippodrome.

She joined the Hippodrome board in March 2023 and will officially move into her new role in December after the departure of current chair Glenn Howells.

The first female chair of the Hippodrome said, “Birmingham Hippodrome is a brilliant theatre, serving its wide community. Since I joined the board, I’ve been inspired by the skill and commitment of the trustees. It’s such an honour to be appointed chair.

“I look forward to working with the board and the whole Hippodrome team on our exciting plans for the future: to providing memorable and extraordinary experiences, to be an integral part of a vibrant Birmingham cultural scene and always to be people-focused, inclusive and sustainable.”

The Hippodrome’s artistic director and chief executive Jon Gilchrist commented, “since joining the board earlier this year, Catherine’s phenomenal expertise combined with her commitment to the region has been invaluable. I’m delighted to be working with her as our chair as we move forward with our ambitious five-year plan.

“I should also like to thank Glenn for his incredible leadership and support as our chair. He’s helped steer the organisation through some of our most challenging times.”
