The transfer of the RSC's Richard II to the Barbican in London marks the start of a three-year collaboration between The Barbican and the Royal Shakespeare Company.
In addition to hosting this production starring David Tennant and directed by Gregory Doran, the Barbican cinema will also house the film screening of the play and a costume exhibition, Costume Craft, which also originates from Stratford-upon-Avon.
Slated for the Barbican stage over the 2014–15 season is Henry IV, Parts I & II, following its première in Stratford-upon-Avon and a national tour. Gregory Doran directs Alex Hassell as Prince Hal and Antony Sher as Falstaff.
The collaboration extends to the provision of an extensive creative learning programme including pre- and post-show events, support for emerging artists, conferences, workshops and schools and communities projects.
Toni Racklin, Head of Theatre at the Barbican said "Our Theatre and Dance programme has built a reputation of bringing high-quality Shakespeare to London audiences and we have a long history of working with internationally renowned companies.
"We are delighted to be able to announce today that our relationship with the RSC will continue beyond Richard II with more brilliant plays and with both organisations’ education departments working together to realise an exciting and unified creative learning programme."
Tickets for the Barbican run of Henry IV, Parts I & II go on sale in the spring.
