Culture Central, the development organisation for culture in the Birmingham city region, has confirmed that Birmingham Weekender will return in 2019.

It follows Weekender ’17 which generated £2.7 million as more than 165,000 people attended events over three days.

Gary Topp, Culture Central’s chief executive, said, “Weekender ‘17 was more than just another city festival—it marked a change in the way that we’re presenting the city as a distinctive, evolving and world-class place for culture.

“We were pleased to work with more organisations, more communities, more venues and more artists than ever before and create something that was genuinely ‘made in Birmingham’. The feedback’s been great but we also know there’s a long way to go.”

Steve Hewlett, manager of Retail BID which aims to promote, enhance and develop the leisure experience in the city centre, said, “Birmingham Weekender 2017 was a great festival and we’re looking forward to supporting it in 2019. With the city being host to the Commonwealth Games in 2022 it’s important that we continue to deliver world-class arts and culture in Birmingham.”

Birmingham Weekender 2019 will run from 27 until 29 September.
