Leicester theatre Curve is to release a 360° panoramic performance of the musical Calamity Jane which is being described as a “world first” and a “technological breakthrough”.

The recording of Calamity Jane, directed by Curve’s artistic director Nikolai Foster, will be available free from Wednesday 22 until Friday 24 July at the Curve 360° web site. People will be able to choose what they see and from where.

Nikolai Foster said, “it’s thrilling that our play about a group of pioneers from the 1800s has been filmed in 2015 using cameras and technology even ahead of their time today. All of us at Curve and the Calamity Jane team are very excited to be the first to test this new technology onstage."

Curve’s commercial director Alister de Ternant added, “the benefits of using this technology and being the first theatre in the world to use it could be enormous, not only in technological advancement but in terms of what it actually enables by making theatre truly accessible to all.”
