Leicester’s Curve is to stage the regional première of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Wizard of Oz as its 2020 Christmas musical.

Based on the 1939 MGM film, the stage show The Wizard of Oz features new music and songs from Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice as well as “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”, “If I Only Had a Brain” and “Follow the Yellow Brick Road”.

It will be directed by Curve’s artistic director Nikolai Foster whose previous productions include West Side Story in 2019, Irving Berlin’s White Christmas—which also played at the Dominion Theatre in the West End—in 2018 and Scrooge the Musical by Leslie Bricusse in 2017.

Foster and Curve chief executive Chris Stafford said in a statement, “it’s thrilling to be working with Andrew Lloyd Webber and his team on the regional première of Andrew’s extraordinary version of The Wizard of Oz.

“Christmas at Curve is always a special time but it will feel even more magical this year as we bring these much-loved characters to life in our spectacular Made at Curve production of this classic.”

The Wizard of Oz will run at Curve from Saturday 28 November until Saturday 16 January 2021.
