Dame Eileen Atkins

Next weekend, actress and screenwriter Dame Eileen Atkins will be in conversation with theatre director Richard Digby Day at the University of Bristol's Wickham Theatre.

The event is being held to raise funds for the cataloguing and conservation of the personal archive of acclaimed stage designer Oliver Messel (1904 – 1978).

Messel designs were seen on London and Broadway stages as well as on film. He previously worked as an artist and portrait painter.

Dame Eileen Atkins's career covers six decades in theatre, television and film and as a writer. Her recent stage work has been the one-woman show Ellen Terry at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse.

Dame Eileen has won three Olivier awards, a BAFTA and an Emmy award. She will be known to television viewers for Cranford. She was made a CBE in 1990 and became a Dame in 2001.

This event takes place on 15 January. It is organised by The Friends of the University of Bristol Theatre Collection. Tickets are available online.
