Danny Mac will play Joe Gillis and Ria Jones will be Norma Desmond in the UK and Ireland tour of Leicester Curve’s production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Sunset Boulevard.
Curve’s chief executive Chris Stafford and artistic director Nikolai Foster said in a joint statement, “we’re delighted to welcome Danny Mac back to Leicester after his performance as Warner Huntington III in our production of Legally Blonde the Musical in 2016.
“Joe Gillis is an incredible role and we know Danny will be terrific in Andrew Lloyd Webber's masterpiece. Having an actor of Danny's calibre to play opposite Ria Jones's magnificent Norma Desmond will be thrilling.”
Danny Mac, who reached the final of BBC1’s Strictly Come Dancing in 2016, will shortly play Gabey in Leonard Bernstein’s On the Town at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre.
Foster directs Sunset Boulevard which will run at Curve from Saturday 16 September until Saturday 30 September. Press night will be Thursday 28 September.
It will then tour to Edinburgh Playhouse, Newcastle Theatre Royal, Manchester Palace, His Majesty’s Theatre, Aberdeen, Birmingham Hippodrome, Bord Gais Energy Theatre, Dublin and Milton Keynes Theatre. Full casting and further dates will be announced shortly.
