Derby Theatre wants to talk to a range of teenagers to help with research and development of a new play called Abi which will feature in its autumn 2018 season.

The theatre is interested in talking to a mixed group of young people from all backgrounds and ethnicities, in particular young Asian people. They will discuss the themes of the play as well as explaining what excites them about the world they live in and what they think needs to change.

The theatre also wants to discuss what they find difficult about being a young person, how they believe males and females differ, their thoughts and feelings about social media, what they think about Brexit and their views on mixed-race relationships.

Caroline Barth, Derby Theatre’s creative learning director, said, “this is a great opportunity for us to really understand local young people’s thoughts and opinions and use them to inform an exciting piece of new writing for our main stage.”

A discussion about Abi involving playwright Atiha Sen Gupta and the theatre’s artistic director and chief executive Sarah Brigham who is directing will be held on Friday 2 March at 4.30PM.

Anyone aged between 13 and 17 who is interested in getting involved should book a space for the discussion by calling the box office on 01332 593939 or at the Derby Theatre web site.
