Reasons to be Cheerful: part of Derby Theatre’s autumn and winter season

A new adaptation of a Charles Dickens’s classic, two festive shows suitable for the family and a number of touring productions are highlights of the 2017 autumn and winter season at Derby Theatre.

As previously announced, Neil Bartlett’s adaptation of Great Expectations gets the season under way from Friday 29 September until Saturday 21 October. Derby Theatre artistic director Sarah Brigham’s production will feature an ensemble of actors including new as well as familiar faces.

The big Christmas production will be Mike Kenny’s adaptation of J M Barrie’s Peter Pan, from 2 December until 6 January 2018, while for younger theatregoers the Christmas show in the Studio will be The Gingerbread Man, presented by Hiccup Theatre and Derby Theatre from 5 until 31 December.

Touring productions include Graeae Theatre Company’s Reasons to be Cheerful featuring the hits of Ian Dury and the Blockheads from 12 until 16 September The Suitcase presented by The Market Theatre of Johannesburg from 20 until 23 September, Laura Eason’s adaptation of Jules Verne’s Around the World in 80 Days from 7 until 12 November and the stage version of the cult ‘80s film Rita, Sue and Bob Too from 21 until 25 November.
