Derry-Londonderry UK City of Culture 2013

Amongst this month's offering of music, drama and arts events the 2013 UK City of Culture, Derry-Londonderry, launches Music Promise a year-long enterprise to involve young people in music making.

It makes its start with Music Pathways to Learning, a programme that will see seven thousand 3- to 8-year-olds access learning via music, song and literacy, but the programme also includes free workshops, performances in the City's schools and support for the musical development of fifty talented young people.

Alongside this initiative is the launch of BT Portrait of a City, a project to create a significant photographic archive which will include images and film material from the area's libraries and contributions from the community. In support of public involvement, training is being made available.

Amongst the highlights of the other events taking place during April are the Highland Dance Festival, the Féis Dhoíre Cholmcille in which people will compete in a variety of performance disciplines from poetry recital to hip-hop, and art project The Shirt Factory Project, looking at the City’s legacy of shirt making.
