Eccleston and Cusack prepare for Macbeth at RSC

The Royal Shakespeare Company’s contemporary production of the Bard’s darkest psychological thriller Macbeth marks Christopher Eccleston’s RSC debut and Niamh Cusack’s return to the company.

They will play Macbeth and Lady Macbeth in the production, directed by Polly Findlay, which will have a six-month run in the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Stratford.

They will be joined by David Acton (Duncan), Afolabi Alli (lord / young Siward / murderer), Donna Banya (Donalbain / lady), Stevie Basaula (bloody captain / 2nd murderer), Edward Bennett (Macduff), Katy Brittain (doctor / lady), Raif Clarke (aide), Paul Dodds (Siward / chamberlain), Josh Finan (aide), Bally Gill (Ross), Mariam Haque (Lady MacDuff), Michael Hodgson (porter), John Macaulay (chamberlain / lord / murderer), Luke Newberry (Malcolm), Tom Padley (security guard / murderer), Tim Samuels (Lennox) and Raphael Sowole (Banquo).

Design is by Fly Davis with lighting by Lizzie Powell and music by Rupert Cross. Sound is by Christopher Shutt and movement is by Aline David. Fights are by Kate Waters and illusions by Chris Fisher.

Macbeth runs in repertoire from Tuesday 13 March until Tuesday 18 September. Press night will be Tuesday 20 March. The production will be broadcast live to cinemas on 11 April. Further screenings will follow from 4 May.
