Experimental: Birmingham’s BE Festival

Twenty shows from nine European countries will be on offer at the 2015 BE Festival, Birmingham's annual festival of European theatre.

Described as "one of the UK's most experimental theatrical events", BE Festival has a "unique" format which gives audiences the opportunity to see four 30-minute long shows each evening and eat dinner with the performers in the interval. This year’s festival explores topics around contemporary democracy.

Highlights of the programme include a full version of Show by 2014 first prize festival winner Antonio Tagliarini of Italy on Tuesday 23 June; Collage, an outdoor performance in Centenary Square by Spanish trampolining company Bot Project on Wednesday 24 June; Athletes by Ricardo Buscarini (UK/Italy), which contemplates the competition between man and machines, on Thursday 25 June; Tortured Mind by InPulse (Germany), a topsy-turvy story following the attempts of a psychiatrist to treat his patient through a series of creative games, also on 25 June; and Mouvma! by Collectif Corps Citoyen(Tunisia/Italy), which goes back to the start of the Arab Spring and asks questions about political change, society and the future, on Friday 26 June.

The festival runs at Birmingham REP from Tuesday 23 until Saturday 27 June. The full programme is available at the BE Festival web site.
