LEAP 2017

Merseyside Dance Initiative, MDI, is working with Unity theatre and MAKE Liverpool to bring LEAP dance 2017 to Liverpool this March.

As it is the 25th anniversary of LEAP, MDI has raised £5,000 via Kickstarter to renovate MAKE Liverpool into a dedicated pop-up dance house, a first for the company and for Liverpool.

MDI is working with local companies including Unity Theatre, Wired Aerial Theatre, Edge Hill and JMU and has some big dance industry names confirmed to perform including Gary Clarke’s Company, Hetain Petal and Stop Gap Theatre.

One of the main performances will be the new production from choreographer Gary Clarke. COAL is a show that explores the impact of the miners’ strike and will feature performers auditioned locally and a live brass band. All of the male cast are performers from the national company, but the four female performers will be auditioned in Liverpool and a local brass band has been selected.
