Regeneration at Blackpool Grand

The Grand Theatre, Blackpool marks the centenary of the First World War by hosting the final dates of the world première tour of Pat Barker’s Booker-nominated novel Regeneration from November 25-29.

This critically acclaimed new dramatisation is adapted by Olivier award-winning playwright Nicholas Wright (His Dark Materials, Vincent in Brixton) and directed by Simon Godwin (The National Theatre, RSC, and the Royal Court).

Produced by Touring Consortium Theatre Company and Royal & Derngate Theatre, Northampton, Regeneration plays to only 11 venues throughout the UK, closing this debut tour at Blackpool Grand.

Set in Craiglockhart War Hospital, Scotland 1917, war poet and soldier Siegfried Sassoon has been institutionalised in an attempt to undermine his public disapproval of the war. His Army Psychiatrist, Dr William Rivers, has been tasked with returning shell-shocked officers to the trenches, yet under Sassoon’s influence, has become tormented by the morality of what is being done in the name of medicine.
