First major in-house production at the Grand for more than 40 years: Brassed Off

Wolverhampton Grand is to hold auditions for members of the community for selected roles in a new production of Brassed Off.

It will be the first major in-house production at the venue for more than 40 years. Two of the roles that will be taken by the community are Jim and Harry, both in their 40s, who are members of the brass band. There are two women, Rita, Harry’s wife, and Vera, Jim’s wife, both in their 40s.

There are two non-speaking roles for Craig and Melody who are aged between seven and nine. An ensemble of mixed ages will play assorted roles including miners, their wives and bailiffs.

Auditions will be held at Newhampton Arts Centre on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 April. Information on how to apply is available at the Wolverhampton Grand web site. Applications should be submitted by Friday 17 March.

Brassed Off, written by Paul Allen and adapted from Mark Herman’s screenplay, runs at the Grand from Wednesday 23 August until Saturday 2 September.
