From 19 October to 7 November, to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the publication of Alice in Wonderland, the Guildford Shakespeare Company is producing a brand new stage adaptation.

GSC co-founder Sarah Gobran said, "this project is one that GSC have been wanting to do for a long time.

"When we were considering how to follow up the success of our first autumn season last year, (The Canterbury Tales) and then realised that we would be very close to the 150th anniversary date of Alice, we knew we had to do it now."

GSC claims that Alice in Wonderland will be the its most ambitious project yet, using three different venues to bring the story to life.

Gobran explained, "for this unique, immersive production, audiences will be starting in the very church where Carroll preached: St. Mary's... but that is only the beginning.

"With such close ties to Lewis Carroll, we always wanted Guildford to play a starring role in this project, so we're thrilled to be taking audiences on a magical journey through Guildford's own Wonderland."

The company is transforming key sites in the vicinity of The Chestnuts—the house Carroll bought for his sisters—including installations in the Museum, though the full route is being kept as a surprise."

There will be three performances of Alice each night over 18 days, with numbers strictly limited to 50 in each group.

The production is directed by Guildford theatre director Charlotte Conquest, who directed GSC's summer show The Taming of the Shrew. The show will include projection, puppetry, sound installations and audience participation.
