Guildford Shakespeare Company's Othello

The Guildford Shakespeare Company will be giving young actors a chance to get inside the mind of one of Shakespeare's ultimate villians: Iago.

The four-hour Shakespeare-workout will give young people aged between 12-17 the opportunity to get to grips with this great play and its characters from the point of view of actors preparing for performance.

Rehearsal techniques used by the professional cast will be explored to bring the speeches and scenes to life. No previous experience of Shakespeare is necessary, just a desire to get up, give it a a go, and have some fun.

The £30 workshop includes a backstage tour of the production in Holy Trinity Church, where the props, weapons, costumes and sets can be viewed, and a ticket for the evening performance.

Other events in the Othello programme include a talk from award-winning writer Charles Nicholl on his book The Lodger (Saturday 8 February), a free post-show discussion with the company after an evening performance (Thursday 13 February) and audio-described performance for the blind and visually impaired during the matinée (Saturday 22 February, touch-tour, 1:30PM).

Othello, set against the claustrophobic backdrop of 1950s Cold War paranoia, runs from 4 to 22 February at Holy Trinity Church, Guildford High Street.
