Called off: seven performances of Snow White were scheduled for Birmingham

The “world’s biggest pantomime” Snow White, which was due to be staged at Birmingham’s Barclaycard Arena and the SSE Arena Wembley, has been cancelled because of illness to director Jon Conway.

A spokesperson for Arena Panto Ltd said, “Jon Conway has been fundamental to every aspect of the show as the creative force as well as scriptwriter, director and executive producer. Therefore the tough decision has been made to postpone the event for 12 months until December 2017.”

Former Spice Girl Mel B, comedian Paddy McGuinness and presenter Rylan Clark-Neal were due to be in the cast along with Vincent Simone and Flavia Cacace from Strictly Come Dancing.

Clark-Neal said, “Mel B and Vincent and Flavia join me in sending our best wishes to Jon and his family and wish him a speedy recovery. I hope we all get to work together in the near future and put on a great show for everyone to see.”

Snow White was due to be in Birmingham from 12 until 22 December and at Wembley from 28 until 30 December.
