A newly-commissioned project created by Obscura Theatre for the Brontë Parsonage Museum and Ilkley Literature Festival, Soundlandscape: The Wild Hauntings on the Moor, is part of the celebrations around Emily Brontë’s birthday July 29 but available until October and the Lit Fest.

It can be downloaded from the Museum and Festival web sites from July 29. The 40-minute piece explores the landscapes and themes of the supernatural that run through many of the stories created by the Brontë family.

North West based Obscura Theatre is known for sharing tales that are strange and unusual and specialises in exploring folklore, the fantastical and its relationship to land and local identity.

The two stories, developed by Yorkshire director Beth Knight along with Obscura’s writer, composer and sound designer Patch Middleton and director and producer Emily Oulton, interconnect and have been designed to be downloaded and listened to while walking in the relevant landscape. Audio players will be available to borrow at the Brontë Parsonage Museum and there will also be a film of the route available to watch alongside the audio for those who aren’t able to visit.
