Devoted and Disgruntled: provocative debate and discussion

Northampton’s Royal and Derngate, The Core at Corby Cube and London's New Diorama Theatre have formed a partnership with Improbable whose 13th annual “unconventional convention” Devoted and Disgruntled will be “its most accessible ever”.

Devoted and Disgruntled is an opportunity for arts people at every point in their careers—from audiences to artists, grassroots groups to seasoned professionals—to focus on the question: “what are we going to do about theatre and the performing arts?”

Additional funding means Improbable will be working with a dedicated access consultant to bring in more support staff than ever to provide BSL interpretation and lip-speakers, to investigate and supply state-of-the-art access technology and to make the event one for everyone.

Royal and Derngate’s chief executive Martin Sutherland and executive associate Andrew Miller said, ”having participated in Devoted and Disgruntled a number of times before, we’re delighted to be able to make this vital event even more accessible for all of our colleagues this year.

“We’re constantly seeking opportunities to ensure that the arts are for, by and with everyone. We very much look forward to another weekend of fun, lively, provocative and reflective debate and discussion.”

After being held in Birmingham and Bristol for the past two years, Devoted and Disgruntled will move to New Diorama Theatre’s ND2 space in London from 20 until 22 January 2018.

As well as providing the venue, New Diorama is funding grants for up to 150 artists of colour to attend from across the UK.

David Byrne, New Diorama’s artistic and executive director, said, “hosting Devoted and Disgruntled is a huge honour. NDT works with hundreds of diverse artists and groups and we’ll ensure that anyone who wants to attend can afford to be in the room.”
