“Humbled”: Martha Kirby
“Delighted”: Tyrone Huntley

Martha Kirby will play Eva Perón and Tyrone Huntley will be Che in Leicester Curve’s new production of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Evita.

Kirby took the role of Raven in the UK tour of Jim Steinman’s Bat Out of Hell in 2021 and 2022 as well as playing Sandy in the first UK tour of Curve’s Grease the Musical in 2019.

She said, “I’m humbled by the opportunity to discover this iconic role while working with such an incredible team in the most nurturing environment. It truly is a gift.”

Huntley played Wesley in Max Vernon’s The View Upstairs at Soho Theatre in 2019 and was Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre in 2016. He appeared at Curve in Hairspray in 2014.

He said, “I’m delighted to be returning to the incredible Curve after nearly a decade. As musical theatre goes, there’s no show quite as iconic as Evita, so I really can’t wait to get going.”

Curve’s artistic director Nikolai Foster will direct. Foster and chief executive Chris Stafford said, “we’re thrilled Martha Kirby and Tyrone Huntley are leading our new production of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s magnificent musical.

“Martha and Tyrone are both rising stars and represent the very best of UK theatre. We’re excited to see them set the stage ablaze as they redefine these iconic roles in this incredible show for the 21st century. They lead an astonishing company and we look forward to sharing more casting and production news later in the year.”

Evita will run at Curve from Monday 27 November until Saturday 13 January 2024.
