Nottingham Playhouse’s production of Matthew Spangler’s adaptation of Khaled Hosseini’s novel The Kite Runner is to return to Nottingham after two West End runs.

Originally a co-production between Nottingham Playhouse and the Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse, The Kite Runner had its premiere in Nottingham in 2013. It transferred to Wyndham’s Theatre and the Playhouse Theatre, London.

The play will have a new cast when it returns to Nottingham from Thursday 31 August until Saturday 9 September before going on a UK tour.

Nottingham Playhouse chief executive Stephanie Sirr said, “The Kite Runner has played such a special role in the life of the theatre and the city. It was our best-selling drama for many years.

“The Big Read project we participated in with The Kite Runner and the city was instrumental in securing our City of Literature status. Its national touring and two West End outings have taken the names of Nottingham and Nottingham Playhouse far and wide.”

Artistic director Giles Croft who directed the play added, “when we first produced The Kite Runner in 2013 we couldn't have imagined that it would go on to have such a long life. I'm delighted that the production will be returning to Nottingham Playhouse after two successful seasons in the West End before touring the UK for a second time.”
