Theatre by the Lake in Keswick is to extend its work with people with dementia after receiving grants to build on activities that have already made it a pioneer among regional theatres.

New funds will enable staff to launch a pilot project for activity sessions both in the theatre and in local care home The Millfield.

“We want to make the theatre as accessible as possible, a welcoming place for everyone in the community,” said Mary Elliott, the theatre’s house manager.

The activity sessions, eight each at the theatre and in the care home, will begin in October and will be run by two members of Theatre by the Lake’s Education and Participation team using storytelling, drama, music and movement to encourage residents to take part, communicate and be creative.
