Merry Wives of Whitley Bay

After a sold-out performance at this year’s Wandsworth Fringe in London, a new comedy musical based on Shakespeare’s The Merry Wives will be coming to Laurels in Whitley Bay for two nights July 27–28 .

This irreverent retelling from writer-producer Gary Thomas (The 49; A Simple Wedding Comedy) and director David O’Mahony (Dr Who: The Lost Stories; Memorial) features an all-female cast, explorations of queer identity, pop songs and hilarity.

The Merry Wives encourages new audiences to dabble in Shakespeare and be navigated through "an uproarious tale of comeuppance." Gary Thomas will also be hosting an inclusive theatre workshop with Jamie Eastlake, artistic director of Laurel’s, as well as a post-show club night featuring songs from the show.
