Stephanie Cole, Siobhan Redmond and Karl Theobold appear in Alan Bennett’s Talking Heads—three monologues: A Cream Cracker Under the Settee, A Chip in the Sugar and A Lady of Letters—at the Theatre Royal, Nottingham from Tuesday until Saturday.

New Vic legend Eric returns with his company of actors, singers and musicians in a “tale of sun, sangria and senoritas filled with comedy and the greatest hits of the 1960s” in Eric in Benidorm! at the New Vic, Newcastle-under-Lyme from Tuesday until Saturday 12 September.

Derby-based company Oddsocks performs in its home city when it stages Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing at Derby Theatre from Wednesday until Friday.

Final-year theatre arts students at the University of Derby look at Shakespeare’s Widows in Derby Theatre Studio on Friday and Saturday.

Alexandra Burke plays the lead role of Rachel Marron in The Bodyguard which continues at Birmingham Hippodrome until Saturday.

At the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford, The Merchant of Venice continues until Wednesday 2 September; in the Swan Theatre, Christopher Marlowe’s The Jew of Malta continues until Tuesday 8 September and Volpone until Saturday 12 September.
