Coventry’s Albany Theatre is to host more shows than ever, with a mix of drama, dance and family entertainment planned into the start of 2019.

The season opens with an “explosive” one-woman show in the studio. John Woudberg’s Woman on Fire celebrates the centenary of women winning the right to vote and “takes audiences to the blistering heart of the UK suffrage movement in a funny, sad, tense but compelling drama”.

Certain Curtain Theatre tells the story of Edith Rigby, who was overshadowed by the more vociferous Pankhurst women yet raged against social injustice and a political system that denied women the right to vote. The theatre’s co-founder Claire Moore plays Rigby in Woman on Fire which can be seen at the Albany on Friday 14 and Saturday 15 September.

Ballet Theatre UK will make two visits to Coventry, with Beauty and the Beast on Friday 12 October and Swan Lake on Friday 22 March 2019.

There will be a special production to commemorate the centenary of the end of World War I. Ceridwen Theatre will present Armistice: The Long Road to Peace in the studio from Friday 9 until Sunday 11 November.

Ceridwen will return with its festive retelling of J M Barrie’s Peter Pan. Especially adapted for the Albany stage, it will feature puppetry, an original music score and swordplay from Monday 10 until Saturday 22 December.

Strictly Come Dancing’s Giovanni Pernice will be back for the third year running with his latest UK tour, Il Ballo e Vita—Dance is Life on Thursday 21 February 2019.
