Opera North and Leeds Playhouse will come together to produce the musical with book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe based on George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion.
The musical follows Eliza Doolittle, a young Cockney flower seller, and Henry Higgins, a linguistics professor who is determined to transform her into his idea of a “proper lady”. But who is really being transformed?
The new production will be directed by Leeds Playhouse Artistic Director James Brining, while Oliver Rundell will conduct the Chorus and Orchestra of Opera North. Designer is Madeleine Boyd, who designed the companies' previous collaboration on A Little Night Music, also directed by Brining, in 2021.
My Fair Lady will run in the Quarry Theatre at Leeds Playhouse from 31 May to 29 June 2024.
