A new cast recording of the current West End production of Funny Girl starring Sheridan Smith as Fanny Brice is to be released on Decca on 5 August.

This musical, with music by Jule Styne, lyrics by Bob Merrill and a book by Isobel Lennart, tells the life story of the Ziegfeld Follies star Fanny Brice, who rose from Brooklyn music hall singer to Broadway star, and her tempestuous relationship with gambler Nicky Arnstein (Darius Campbell).

The production opened at Menier Chocolate Factory in November 2015 before transferring to the Savoy Theatre in April 2016. This year is the 50th anniversary of the original London production of the show, which originally opened on Broadway in 1964.
