The Spread Eagle Theatre Croydon

Next month sees the opening of a new 50-seat studio theatre in central Croydon.

Popular weekly art-house screenings above the Spread Eagle Pub prompted venue operators Fullers Brewery to investigate the possibility of a theatre / cinema conversion in collaboration with small professional production house, The Old Joint Stock Theatre, a Birmingham boarding-house pub theatre supported by Fullers.

The Spread Eagle Theatre will house its own productions and co-productions with professional companies, opening with The Old Joint Stock Theatre’s Edinburgh success, Tea At Five.

Two years ago, the town lost its art-house cinema and its only production house, the Warehouse Theatre, rendering it something of a "barren landscape of arts venues".
