Set in the world of amateur poker: Patrick Marber's breakthrough play

Northampton’s Royal and Derngate has announced that the final summer production in its Made in Northampton 2014 season will be Patrick Marber’s award-winning play Dealer’s Choice.

Patrick Marber's “brilliantly funny” story of male camaraderie and obsession is set in the world of amateur poker. When it was first staged at the National Theatre in 1995, the play won the Evening Standard award for best comedy.

Dealer’s Choice will be directed by Michael Longhurst who directed the 2012-13 Royal Court and West End show Constellations.

He also directed Academy Award nominee Jake Gyllenhaal in his American stage debut, Nick Payne’s If There is I Haven’t Found it Yet, at the Roundabout Theater in New York.

Royal and Derngate’s artistic director James Dacre says, “We’re thrilled that Michael will be bringing Patrick Marber’s exhilarating breakthrough play to Northamptonshire audiences, demonstrating why one of the most iconic plays of the 1990s remains powerfully relevant today.”

Further details of the cast and creative team will be announced shortly.

Dealer’s Choice takes to Royal stage from Friday 23 May until Saturday 14 June before transferring to Oxford Playhouse.
