Northampton’s new adaptation of The Jungle Book

Jessica Swale’s new adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book will be staged at Northampton’s Royal and Derngate in celebration of the 150th anniversary of Kipling’s birth.

Swale’s play Nell Gwynn which was produced at Shakespeare’s Globe won an Olivier Award for best new comedy in 2016. Max Webster whose 2016 production Dr Seuss’s The Lorax at the Old Vic was nominated for an Olivier for best entertainment and family show directs The Jungle Book. Music is by Joe Stilgoe.

The cast includes Rachel Dawson as Kaa Grey, Lloyd Gorman as Shere Khan, T J Holmes as Hiran, Avita Jay as Raksha, Keziah Joseph as Mowgli, Dyfrig Morris as Balloo, Deborah Oyelade as Bagheera and Tripti Tripuraneni as Akela. They are joined by Ruri James and Chipo Kureya in the ensemble.

A co-production with the Children’s Touring Partnership, The Jungle Book takes to the Royal stage from Tuesday 28 November until Sunday 31 December before going on a national tour.
