The Ostrich Boys in rehearsal

Four actors play multiple roles in the UK première of Carl Miller’s adaptation of Keith Gray’s book The Ostrich Boys at the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry.

This coming-of-age story follows four boys on an epic pilgrimage north to honour their friend and come to terms with his death.

At Ross’s funeral, the wrong people are saying the wrong things. Even the music is wrong. Determined to do “something proper, something real, something Ross would’ve wanted”, his best friends Kenny, Sim and Blake decide to do a runner with his ashes. They intend to take him to Ross in Scotland to fulfill his wish of being Ross in Ross.

Along the way, they discover some uneasy truths. In this story of loss, hope and the meaning of friendship, will the Ostrich Boys finally start to pull their heads out of the sand?

The theatre’s creative associate Tony Graham directs The Ostrich Boys which runs in the B2 auditorium at the Belgrade from Saturday 10 until Saturday 24 September.
