Women and Theatre, pioneering new ways of addressing contemporary social issues

Women and Theatre’s 30th anniversary celebrations culminate in a new production, fittingly called For the Past 30 Years, at Birmingham REP.

The piece is not a history of the company but a collection of six monologues created from interviews with more than 50 women who have also been doing their job for 30 years.

For the Past 30 Years will “shine a light on the experiences of women who have reached their professional pearl anniversary milestone working in the theatre, health, community, probation, education and business sectors”.

The production combines the writing talents of Naylah Ahmed, Stephanie Dale, Katy Knight, Stephanie Ridings, Hannah Silva and Polly Wright. Taking part in the performance will be Lorna Laidlaw, Hema Mangoo and Women and Theatre’s artistic director and founder member Janice Connolly, also known as Barbara Nice.

Women and Theatre is an award-winning, Birmingham-based company which has pioneered new ways of addressing contemporary social issues through performance since 1984.

Directed by Tessa Walker and Caroline Wilkes, For the Past 30 Years will run in The Door at Birmingham REP from Thursday until Saturday (9 until 11 October).
