“Delighted”: Charlotte Sutton

The Royal Shakespeare Company has appointed Charlotte Sutton as its new head of casting.

She has worked in theatre casting since 2010 and is currently an artistic associate of the Young Vic. Previously she was the casting associate at Chichester Festival Theatre. She will join the RSC in November 2023.

Sutton said, “I’m delighted to be joining the RSC at such a pivotal moment for the organisation. Growing up in Leicestershire, we made regular school trips to see plays in Stratford, so the RSC formed a key part of my formative theatregoing experience and has remained so.

“In tandem with the team at the company, we’ll strive for casting that is bold, ambitious, inclusive and exciting. I look forward to working with Daniel (Evans) and Tamara (Harvey) to build on the RSC’s long tradition of excellence in this thrilling new chapter.”

RSC co-artistic directors Harvey and Evans commented, “we’re over the moon that Charlotte will be the RSC’s new head of casting. Her vast experience—both in the commercial and subsidised sectors—spans Shakespeare, the classics, musicals and new plays.

“She’s worked with so many of our most innovative directors, has a keen eye for emerging talent and cares deeply about inclusion and fostering exceptional artists. We can’t wait to get started.”
