Durham Fringe Festival has announced a collaboration with Elysium Theatre and Durham University at this year’s festival, becoming part of Durham City’s Summer of Shakespeare.

Stephen Cronin, chair of DFF, said: “we’re proud to be hosting the last three performances of both The Dream and Macbeth in our festival performance marquee on Palace Green.”

As well as two of Shakespeare’s plays being performed by Durham’s Elysium Theatre, several other fringe festival shows are bringing a Shakespeare twist to their performances. Menstrual Rage Theatre Company is performing The Shrew—a chaotic take on Shakespeare’s Taming of The Shrew—and Shakespeare’s Speakeasy from Newcastle promises a take on one of the Bard’s plays without revealing up front which play it will be. Impromptu Shakespeares will deliver an witty take on Shakespeare’s works that changes with every improvised performance.

For children, Manic Macbeth will have audience members becoming performers, and for music lovers, Jessa Liversidge’s show is a celebration of the works of both Shakespeare and Burns in song.

The Durham Fringe Festival returns for a third year from July 26–30.
