Having fun: The School of Night
Creating a new Shakespeare play: Shake It Up Theatre

Shakespeare improvisation company The School of Night has joined forces with Shake it Up Theatre to present a first Shakespeare impro day at the Library of Birmingham.

Oliver Senton from The School of Night said, “be prepared for Shakespeare as you’ve never seen or heard him before. We’ll be having fun with performances revealing to visitors the hidden treasures of the Library on its 10th anniversary.”

Taking place in locations throughout the Library of Birmingham, the programme of activities will feature Shake It Up using audience suggestions and imaginations to create a new Shakespeare play throughout the day and amateur West Midlands-based groups delivering improvised Shakespeare activities.

The day has been organised to celebrate Birmingham’s own First Folio, which turns 400 in November, as well as the Library of Birmingham’s 10th birthday. The public will be able to view the Folio as well as items from Birmingham’s collection which contains more than 40,000 volumes, 17,000 production photographs, hundreds of British and international production posters, 15,000 performance programmes and 10,000 playbills.

The impro day will be held on Saturday 2 September from 11AM until 4:30PM.
