End of the RainbowA production that started life on Northampton’s Royal stage two years ago has opened on Broadway.

End of the Rainbow, starring Tracie Bennett as Judy Garland, is playing at the Belasco Theatre in New York.

Co-produced by Royal and Derngate and nominated for four Olivier awards last year, End of the Rainbow had a sell-out, six-month run in the West End.

The show features Judy Garland in the final weeks of her life as she battles with drugs and alcohol while preparing for her comeback concerts in London.

Royal and Derngate chief executive Martin Sutherland commented, "We're delighted that a production that was first staged by Royal and Derngate is now causing a stir on Broadway.

"This is a great example of how Northampton audiences can see world-class theatre before anyone else - right here their doorstep."

Written by Peter Quilter, End of the Rainbow is directed by Terry Johnson.
