The joint event for the Stephen Sondheim Society Student Performer of the Year and the Mercury Musical Developments Stiles & Drew Best Song Prize will take place at the Queen's Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue on Sunday 27 May at 3PM.
In an event hosted by actor and singer Claire Moore, who will also perform, Stephen Sondheim Society patron Julia McKenzie and a representative from Overtures: the Bunnett-Muir Musical Theatre Archive Trust, which donated the prize money, will present the prize to the Stephen Sondheim Society Student Performer of the Year 2012.
The singers competing for the prize are: Matt Corner of ArtsEd, London; Jennifer Greenwood Bristol of Old Vic Theatre School; Mark Donald of Bristol Old Vic Theatre School; Jason Broderick of Central School of Speech and Drama; Ewan Black of Dance School of Scotland at Knightswood Sec School; Kris Olsen of Guildford School of Acting; Bryan Parry of Italia Conti Academy; Hatty Preston of LAMDA; Matthew Cavendish of LAMDA; Tia Renée Konsur of Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts; Charlotte Smith of Oxford School of Drama; Emma Salvo of Royal Academy of Music.
For the Stiles & Drewe Best New Song Prize 2012, members of Mercury Musical Developments were given the opportunity to enter up to two songs which could either be from a show or cabaret material that has not yet been presented in the West End.
The award will be presented by its namesakes, musical songwriting partnership George Stiles and Anthony Drewe, to a winner chosen by a panel of Wizard of Oz star Danielle Hope, director Laurie Sansom, arranger David Shrubsole and producer Michael McCabe, chaired by The Independent's chief classical music and opera critic Edward Seckerson.
