Steinbeck revival heads Birmingham Rep shows

RUSH: A Joyous Jamaican Journey travels back to the Rep

Birmingham Rep has unveiled a host of productions for its spring 2023 season including a new production of the stage adaptation of John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men.

Rep associate director Iqbal Khan, who directed the opening ceremony for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, will direct Of Mice and Men, which will run from Saturday 18 March until Saturday 8 April.

A Birmingham Rep, Leeds Playhouse and Fiery Angel Production, Of Mice and Men will then tour to Cambridge Arts Theatre, Malvern Theatres, Bath Theatre Royal and Leeds Playhouse.

Co-produced by the Rep in 2019 as part of its first UK tour, Pride and Prejudice* (*sort of) will return to the venue after a run in the West End where it won an Olivier Award for best comedy. It will run from Monday 17 until Saturday 22 April.

RUSH: A Joyous Jamaican Journey, which sold out at the Rep in 2022, will return from Wednesday 26 until Saturday 29 April. The production tells the story of reggae music and the Windrush Generation.

Adapted by Nesrin Alrefaai and Matthew Spangler, The Beekeeper of Aleppo by Christy Lefteri visits the Rep from Tuesday 13 until Saturday 17 June.

The Rep’s executive director Rachael Thomas said, “spring 2023 promises to build on the Rep’s commitment to bring the very best theatre to Birmingham and West Midlands audiences. We’ve introduced additional discounted ticket schemes in response to the cost-of-living crisis to ensure as many people as possible in our city and beyond can continue to enjoy live theatre.”
