Autumn at Stratford East The Theatre Royal Stratford East has announced its autumn season.
The highlight will be a controversial new play which deals with issues such as Muslim fundamentalism, a jihad for an Islamic state, and the conflict between Cypriots. Written by Cosh Omar and directed by Theatre Royals Kerry Michael, this hard-hitting play, The Battle of Green Lanes, opens on Friday 15th October, and will run for a month. Because it looks at issues surrounding problems with disaffected youth, it includes a lot of strong language.
Before that, Theatre Royal, in association with Boy Blue Entertainment, will stage a ground-breaking hip hop production, The Book of Koraka, which tells its story through the innovative and dynamic dance routines for which Boy Blue are renowned. With a cast of over thirty young people from across London, this fresh production will run for just three nights, from Thursday 7th October to Saturday 9th October.
Fuse will be on stage on 4th November, and it will be a special evening of poetry and music to celebrate the British Councils 70th anniversary. Compered by Benjamin Zephaniah, Fuse will unite on stage some of the brightest stars of the contemporary poetry scene.
And then it will be time for Theatre Royals traditional panto. For this years production of Sleeping Beauty, Hope Massiah has once again come up with a script thats hip, and Delroy Murray has written a score fit for the dance-floor, taking on a traditional panto story and sprinkling it with the Stratford East magic!
Sleeping Beauty opens on Saturday, 27th November and will run until 22nd January. Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
