One of the greatest musicals of all time, Singin’ in the Rain, is to drop into the New Vic Theatre, Newcastle-under-Lyme.

Director Elizabeth Newman said, “Singin’ in the Rain is a favourite for so many people and understandably so. We hope to grip audiences with the magnificent music, entertaining story and iconic dance routines, and it’s an honour to be bringing it all to life.

“The exceptional creative team can’t wait to work with such a talented company of multi-instrumental actors, most of whom are incredibly experienced at making great musical theatre, and all of whom are bringing something truly special to our stage.”

The cast of 12 features Eleanor Brown who toured internationally with Mamma Mia!, Sally Cheng who is making her professional debut, Richard Colvin who was in Theresa Heskins’s adaptation of Mary Orton’s The Borrowers at the New Vic in 2014, Matthew Croke whose credits include Funny Girl at the Menier Chocolate Factory and Wicked at the Apollo Victoria, Christian Edwards who appeared in Lionel Bart’s Oliver! at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane and Les Misérables at the Queen’s Theatre, Matthew James Hinchliffe who was in Sweet Charity at the New Wolsey Theatre Ipswich and the UK tour of Calamity Jane in 2014, Barbara Hockaday who played Dormouse in Morgan Lloyd Malcolm’s adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland at the Octagon Theatre Bolton in 2014, Wendy Paver, Helen Power who played Roxie Hart in Chicago at Oldham Coliseum in 2013, Richard Reeday whose credits include Roald Dahl’s James and the Giant Peach at the Mercury Theatre Colchester and Little Shop of Horrors at Salisbury Playhouse and the Mercury Theatre, Philip Starnier who appeared in the ITV production Maigret and Sarah Vezmar who was in Tipping the Velvet at Lyric Hammersmith.

The co-production between the New Vic, Octagon Theatre Bolton and Salisbury Playhouse features all the memorable songs from the 1952 MGM film.

Singin’ in the Rain runs at the New Vic from Friday 1 until Saturday 16 July.
