Taking Flight to Lake District

Flight is a new work from artist/director Geraldine Pilgrim, who is known for evocative transformations of landmark buildings and landscapes.

Flight is a performance-journey through the house and gardens at Brockhole on Windermere in the Lake District from July 8 to 10, co-commissioned by Lakes Alive and 14-18 NOW.

Inspired by the history of aviation (particularly in Cumbria during the First World War), Flight celebrates the power, beauty and wonder of flight in all its forms with scenes from past and present: a ghostly bi-plane, a deserted airmen’s mess, Icarus’s wings, glamorous '60s air stewardesses, a parachute in a tree…

At the heart of the piece are the stories of the young airmen of the First World War and the people they left behind.

Flight will continue in the form of a free installation trail from July 11 to 17.
