The Harman Technical Residency has been launched by Theatre Royal Plymouth to help a young starter get experience in the industry.

Named in memory of former lighting technician Andy Harman, the 18 month-long residency is unique in the sector but it is hoped the practice will spread across other venues.

Matt Hoyle, head of technical at Theatre Royal Plymouth, said, “this technical residency will provide valuable career pathways, networking and training opportunities within the UK theatre sector. The 18-month Harman Technical Residency will see the successful candidate work within TRP’s established, well respected and experienced technical team on existing skills and will offer mentoring to help enter the technical theatre profession.”

Applications are welcomed from those looking for their first role in the industry with skills from a relevant higher level qualification. The residency programme will be bespoke to the successful applicant who should be based in the UK.

Theatre Royal Plymouth is the UK's largest regional producing theatre. It is a registered charity offering a year-round programme of events, together with art, education and community engagement across the region.
