But First This, A Musical Homage to Radio 4

Amongst the Autumn/Winter Season at Newbury's Watermill Theatre is the world première of But First This, A Musical Homage to Radio 4.

Written by Radio 4 newsreader Kathy Clugston, But First This is based on her nine-year career as a newsreader for BBC Radio 4 and marks herher musical theatre writing début.

The show has music by Desmond O'Connor and will be directed by Michael Kingsbury.

The Christmas show will be J M Barrie's Peter Pan which will feature original musical by Simon Slater, whose credits include the score for Constellations at the Royal Court and Romeo and Juliet at the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Peter Pan has been adapted by Robin Belfield and Simon Slater. Robin Belfield directs.

Other classics in the programme are R C Sherriff's wartime drama Journey's End and Shakespeare's Hamlet adapted by Beth Flintoff and to be directed by Justin Audibert.

The programme for the season is:

  • Journey's End – 11 September to 11 October
  • Hamlet – 13 to 17 October
  • But First This A Musical Homage To Radio 4 – 23 October to 8 November
  • Peter Pan – 20 November to 4 January
