Oldham Coliseum Theatre, Hull Truck and New Vic Theatre, Newcastle-under-Lyme are co-producing a new adaptation of Compton Mackenzie’s Whisky Galore.
Inspired by the all-female touring companies of the post-war years, Philip Goulding’s all-female adaptation introduces ‘the Pallas Players’, who present the comedy classic in their own style.
It will open at Oldham Coliseum on March 16 before embarking on a national tour.
The islanders of Great and Little Todday are dismayed to find their whisky supply dwindling, as the government diverts the precious stuff to the Americans in an attempt to bribe them into supporting the British war effort. When a bottle cargo shipwrecks close by, welcome relief seems to be at hand.
This production’s cast includes Christine Mackie (Downton Abbey’s Daphne Bryant), Coliseum favourite Isabel Ford and Joey Parsad, who recently completed a national tour of Around The World in 80 Days (New Vic Theatre).
It runs to April 7 in Oldham.
