Manchester-born actor David Threlfall has become Patron of Macclesfield-based Northern Rep Theatre.
Back in 1994, Laura Genders and Tuirenn Hurstfield took a school trip to see their first experience of “proper” theatre, The Count of Monte Cristo at Manchester’s Royal Exchange.
The pair came away with a passion for theatre and three decades later, the actor who played the title that fateful night, has now given his support to the founders of the award-winning Northern Rep Theatre.
The company was founded in 2016 by Laura and Tuirenn to establish a company that promoted and celebrated northern talent and their stories.
After a busy summer with two plays at Greater Manchester Fringe Festival, they are currently in rehearsals for Not Being Mean But..., the follow-up to last year’s Not Being Mean, coming to Poynton Players Amateur Dramatics Company from September 14–17 .
David Threlfall sayid, “I was impressed by the straightforward, honest vision. Northern Rep Theatre has already written and created thought-provoking stories to delight and establish a connection with audiences with very little or no financial input. So, to not only start a company but have ambitions to make it grow professionally may seem a brave venture—but one I am delighted and honoured to be supporting.”
